CanadaquaBetween Pond and Tanks

Tank full

Added 3 ghost shrimp

… and 6 diamond tetras today

… and consider the tank fully stocked now. Water quality remains good, but I’m toying with the idea of getting a larger filter and putting this one on the 10 gallon I’m planning for the WCMM when they have to come out of the pond in the fall. We’ll see.

Finding Information

Seems I found a stand. It’s gonna get here Saturday, so pics will have to wait. Meanwhile I finished reading Mein Erstes Aquariumbuch (how fitting) which is a first rate starter book for kids (kudos to you and Monika, Volker), and Freshwater Aquarium Problem Solver, an easy read, also aimed, or so I’d think, mainly at beginners and new tank owners.

Finding Room

Had to do some major rearranging to clear the perfect corner for my new tank. So, here’s where it’s gonna go. Now, I need to find me a stand and a timer and a big ass power bar.

Something about me

We had a huge aquarium when I was a child, and I’ve always been fascinated by them (wandered through the Aquarium of the Pacific last Feb and felt like a child at Christmas). Last year we built a pond in the backyard and started with three comets, who are hopefully hibernating peacefully at the bottom (they were alive as of Jan 9th aka the meltdown).

But what brought me here happened at the end of summer: I got a Waterhome 25 aquarium kit:

And was infected with the bug. I started reading up on aquariums, slowly deciding what Id like to do with my tank (something well planted, Amazonian w/ small Tetras), and I’m currently working on a list of fish that would go well together, so it’ll be easier to pick some in the end (Neons, Glowlights, that sort of thing, maybe some shrimp …). As of today the tank is still empty, because I have to renovate my office to make room for it and the solid base it needs. I’d like to start slowly, gathering as much information as I can beforehand.

I’m thinking Fish

I revived my old off and on interest in a small aquarium and have been doing some reading and measuring and collecting infos (I think I’m talking enough about it to drive the tiger slightly bonkers). Oceanic’s 29g Biocube looks like a good start. I’m considering getting one as soon as my office is finished.
